Plenary Session
The Joy of Data
Hannah Fry, Professor in the Mathematics of Cities
I’ve spent the last decade working with data, hunting for mathematical patterns in human behaviour. In that time, I’ve come across some incredible stories - written solely in the numbers - that get right to the heart of who we are as people.
In this optimistic talk, I’ll share some extraordinary tales about what’s happening at the very cutting edge of data science – a host of surprising and delightful stories that demonstrate how far you can go when we look back at ourselves through the eyes of data. And I’ll show you how a mathematical view of what it means to be human can shape the way we design our society, from dating and healthcare to catching serial killers, and everything in between.
15:15-17:00 CET
Bright Minds Mingle
Grab your favorite beverage and attend a breakout session to have a conversation with industry thought leaders. There’s no agenda, just come prepared with questions and problems you’d like to ask an expert.

Exploratory Session: Affinity Group for Women in Science and Engineering
What does statistical discovery look like through the eyes of women? We are in the planning stages of launching an affinity group for women in the JMP community, and we’d like your input. As a woman scientist, do you face different challenges than your male colleagues? Are there hurdles specific to women in engineering? Have you had difficulties sharing data and unveiling your findings? Join all or part of this informal information-gathering session. Share your perspective or just listen in. It’ll be a safe space for women, those who identify as women, and those who identify with the unique challenges women face working in science, engineering or the field of statistics.

It's Always Something
John Sall, Founder and Chairman, JMP
Co-Founder and Executive Vice President, SAS
To quote Roseanne Roseannadana, "It just goes to show you. It's always something. If it's not one thing, it's another." When analyzing data, sometimes we feel very frustrated because just as one problem has been addressed, there is always another one just around the corner. It feels like it never ends, especially since we still need to meet each frustration and deal with it. When modeling, we need to pay attention to common problems, like those involving missing values, outliers, limits of detection, and unusual distributions, which can make all the difference between drawing the right conclusion – or the wrong one.

Let them eat pie! Early Pi Day Cooking Demo
Do you celebrate Pi Day? At JMP, we do!
Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi) and is observed on 14 March (3/14 in the month/day format) since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π.
Even if you don’t normally celebrate, who doesn’t love an excuse to eat pie?
Join us for a live pre-Pi Day Pie Cooking Demonstration by Jill Santa-Lucia of Catering Works.
The pie recipe and ingredient list will be sent out in advance to attendees who want to prep and join in with the cooking demo.
